Ashleigh Gurtler is originally from Longwood, FL, and grew up dancing, performing, and indulging herself in anything physical and creative. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from George Mason University and earned the Excellence in Performance Award upon graduation. While at GMU, she had the pleasure of performing the work of some incredible choreographers such as Paul Taylor, Laura Dean, Susan Marshall, Patrick Corbin, Larry Keigwin, Susan Shields and Adriane Fang. She also choreographed and produced her own work which was shown in three of the school’s major productions.
After graduation, she moved to NYC to pursue a career in modern dance. Professionally she has had the privilege of working with The Metropolitan Opera, Corbin Dances, Maya Orchin, ArtLabJ, Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre, KDNY, Hee Ra Yoo and Karen Reedy. She is currently collaborating with the theater arts organization Organic Magnetics and performing with choreographer Maya Orchin. As her love for movement and her fascination with the human body began to increase, she found herself immersed in a whole new passion when she was introduced to Pilates.
She completed her mat and apparatus certification through Bent Pilates, Inc. studying the method of the Kane School of Core Integration. Ashleigh combines her love for the movement with her enthusiasm for kinesthetic awareness and proper alignment to create a class that is challenging, energetic and fun.
In her quest to further her investigation into total body health and happiness, she was drawn to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to study Holistic Health Counseling. She began to overcome the fears she had around food, growing up in the thin dancer culture and as a lifelong critic of her own body, and is continuously exploring the amazing a beautiful power that eating mindfully without judgement has on living a truly full life. She completed the program in 2012 and is currently practicing as an AADP Certified Holistic Health Coach. In the spring of 2017, Ashleigh’s desire to deepen her knowledge of nutrition led her to the Maryland University of Integrative Health and she is now pursuing her Masters of Science in Nutrition and Clinical Health.
After experiencing the profound benefits of a regular yoga practice, Ashleigh decided to deepen her knowledge and experience by enrolling in the 200-hour teacher training program at ISHTA Yoga. Once she completed that program, she was so inspired by her teachings at ISHTA that she then went on to complete the 300-hour advanced training program there as well. Now a 500-hour certified instructor, she teaches both privately and in a group setting regularly.
After visiting the majestic mountains of Asheville, NC with her family, she decided to relocate and has been a resident here since summer 2015. Her classes have also taken a new direction, with particular emphasis placed on fusing the Pilates and yoga principles together to create a cohesive and energetic class that is introspective, informative and fun!
Ashleigh draws from her knowledge in each of the modalities she practices to create a program specific to your needs to help you reach your full physical potential and be your happiest self.
